Limpopo woman found with illegal cigarettes worth more than R800k

The woman was arrested after police received a tip-off from the community.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the remarkable partnership between the Makhado police and the Louis Trichardt community-based crime prevention structures continues to bear positive and meaningful results.

This follows the arrest of a 30-year-old woman in the Louis Trichardt CBD, Bosveld Review reports.

“On Tuesday, 15 May, police received a tip-off from a resident about illicit cigarettes being stored in a house within the Louis Trichardt CBD. A joint operation between Makhado Police members and the Louis Trichardt Town Watch, led by the Makhado SAPS Station Commander Colonel Nyelisani Mabatha, was immediately activated and reacted swiftly,” Ngoepe explained.

This resulted in the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of bags containing illicit Pacific Blue cigarettes found in the suspect’s garage.

The estimated sum of the cigarettes’ value is R821 582.08.

“This is a clear indication that together, working hand in hand in the fight against crime, we can do more. The suspect will appear before the Louis Trichardt Magistrate Court, soon,” he concluded.
