Faulty email setting leaves Joburg residents in the dark

A ward councillor has been trying to help residents who do not receive their accounts through email.


Residents who fail to receive their City of Johannesburg bills via email should check whether or not their internet service provider has an automatic setting that sends the statements directly to junk mail or spam, reports Sandton Chronicle.

This according to ward 87 councillor Bridget Steer, who believes many residents do not receive their statements via email because of their spam filter settings.

“Residents should please contact their service providers and ask for the whitelisting of the City of Johannesburg domain. This will allow residents to receive their electronic bills directly to their inbox,” she said.

Visit cojestatements.co.za to request the whitelisting for the City of Joburg domain. This will ensure your internet service provider recognises the domain as a trustworthy source, and messages will go directly to your inbox. In other words, the software applies a blacklist of spammers and a whitelist of known good senders, Steer explains.

“It is important for residents to receive their electronic billing statements timeously.

Ward 87 councillor Bridget Steer says electronic statements are often not received via email because of spam filter settings.

“Thanks to the effective support of the DA-led administration, Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba has announced that residents will not incur increases related to property valuations if they raised objections. Until the objections process is finalised, residents will pay the same amounts as per previous bills.”

Steer hopes that residents will continue to see improvements, even amid challenges, such as the R170-billion service delivery backlog inherited from the previous administration.
