KZN man axed to death on family’s doorstep

Lee Lushozi was found with seven axe wounds to his head and 14 stab wounds to his chest and back.

Last Tuesday night Lee, believed to be about 30, pounded on Gounden’s door in KwaDukuza, KwaZulu-Natal, begging for help, but the family inside were too afraid of his attackers to open the door, North Coast Courier reports.

The anguished cries for help while Lee Lushozi was being hacked and stabbed to death still haunt KwaDukuza resident Daylan Gounden.

A week later and Gounden is still reeling from the gruesome murder on his front doorstep.

Lee Lushozi’s brother, Melusi, cannot come to terms with his brother’s murder.

Instead, they called for a police officer who lived nearby.

“I was in the bathroom when we heard a man crying out for help and asking them not to kill him. He kept on saying ‘niyangibulala’, which means ‘you are killing me’,” said Gounden.

“The people who were attacking him were not talking, all we could hear was the sound of the impact of whatever they were using, and the screaming from the dying man.

“It was one of the most horrific things I have ever heard in my life,” he said.

KwaDukuza SAPS spokesperson constable Sibusiso Khuzwayo said the Happy Valley resident’s body was found with seven axe wounds to his head and 14 stab wounds to his chest and back.

“The motive behind the murder is currently unknown, police are still investigating,” said Khuzwayo.

Lushozi’s older brother, Melusi, said Lushozi was a father to two children and as a family, they are hoping justice will be served so that they could have closure.

“We are still trying to come to terms with the death of my brother, and we wonder why they killed him in such a horrific manner,” said Melusi.

“He did not deserve such a painful death.”
