Woman allegedly raped by driver who ran her over in Kempton Park

The driver had promised to take her to hospital after the accident, but took her to a veld instead, then later his flat.

A woman who was hit by a car on CR Swart Drive in Edleen, Kempton Park on Saturday, was allegedly raped by the driver of the car, who promised to take her to hospital, Kempton Express reports.

Instead, the slightly injured woman was taken to an open veld near Dries Niemandt Park, where she was allegedly raped.

Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD), said the EMPD community liaison unit received information about the incident on Tuesday.

“Information received was that a black VW Golf 6 GTi bumped the pedestrian around 9pm. Apparently, the victim was promised to be transported to Arwyp by the driver of the GTi.”

Instead, she was taken to Dries Niemandt Park.

After the woman’s ordeal at Dries Niemandt, the perpetrator drove her to his flat in Klipfontein View in Midrand, where he allegedly continued to force himself on the 30-year-old victim.

“The metro police accompanied the victim where she pointed out the flat where she said she was raped. Unfortunately, the vehicle wasn’t there, and the suspect could not be found,” Kgasago added.

“The metro police decided to visit the flat around 6am on Wednesday morning. The black VW GTi was sighted parked in the premises and the suspect was identified by the victim.”

The 31-year-old suspect was detained at Kempton Park Police Station on a charge of rape. He is expected to appear in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court today (Thursday).
