EMPD arrests 25 drunk drivers over Easter weekend

The EMPD conducted patrols and roadside checks.


The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) arrested 25 people for drunk driving on the N12 by the Putfontien off-ramp over the Easter weekend, Benoni City Times reports.

The operation was held in conjunction with the SAPS and the Gauteng Traffic Police from March 29 until April 2.

EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago said the operation was aimed at drastically reducing the number of fatalities as well as the number of accidents.

A total of 62 arrests were made in the Ekurhuleni region, and five accidents were recorded.
