Boksburg gunmen open fire on car with toddler inside

The toddler and her mother were not hurt in the robbery.


A man sustained a gunshot wound to his leg when a gang of robbers opened fire on the car that he, and his wife, as well as their two-year-old toddler were driving in, along Main Reef Road in Angelo informal settlement, Boksburg on March 23, Boksburg Advertiser reports.

According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Sgt Cebisa Maseko, police who were patrolling the area noticed the victim’s stationary vehicle on the side of the road and investigated.

“The wife told officers that three men shot her husband in the leg and stole their belongings, including cellphones, money and the car keys,” said Maseko.

The husband was rushed to hospital for treatment.

In another incident, a man’s Volkswagen Golf was hijacked outside a gymnasium on Kingfisher Avenue in Sunward Park on March 20.

The victim told the police that two men, described as African males, approached him and asked for direction to the nearest hospital. While he was still giving them the directions, one man pointed a gun at him.

The pair them jumped into the car and ordered the victim to drive to an undisclosed informal settlement where they picked up two other men. From there, they forced him to continue driving until they reached 103 Heidelberg Road, where they dumped him and disappeared with the vehicle
