Ekurhuleni Central Cluster head of police spokesperson, Lt Col Mack Mngomezulu said the young woman boarded a taxi from Daveyton to Benoni.

“It is alleged that when she was inside the taxi the driver asked her where she was going. She responded and said she was going to Vosloorus,” said Mngomezulu.

“He then drove around Benoni, picked up people along the way and dropped them off in several places.”

Mngomezulu said the driver then asked the woman to pay him R150 and he will take her to Vosloorus.

“However, the woman had R140 which the taxi driver took and drove to a petrol station in Daveyton. After filling the tank with petrol he drove to a veld in the area.

“The driver and his friend threatened the woman and raped her,” he said.

The spokesperson said the two men then left her in the veld and drove off with her cellphone, money and a bank card.

“Whilst police were patrolling in the area they saw her and took her to the Etwatwa Police Station.”

A case of rape was opened at the Etwatwa SAPS.

Police urge anyone with information to contact their nearest police station or contact crime stop on 086000 10111.
