When Ernest, under the impression they had visitors, opened the door, one of the suspects who marched in opened fire and shot Banenzani in the stomach without warning.

They then demanded Ernest’s firearm.

When he denied owning a gun, one suspect shot his wife in the stomach two more times, after which Ernest was also shot in his thigh and stomach.

Fearing for their lives he then told the attackers where he kept his firearm and they then left with his 9mm pistol.

The police were contacted and the couple were rushed to the eMadwaleni Clinic for emergency treatment, before being transferred to Hlabisa Hospital.

A case of attempted murder and house robbery was opened at the KwaMsane police station and is being investigated.

Anyone with information can contact investigating officer, Sergeant Sabelo Mantengu, on 035 5519022 or 083 88022774.
