WATCH: City holds memorial service for JMPD officers who passed away on duty

The City of Joburg and JMPD held a memorial service for the two JMPD officers who passed away on duty during an accident on Monday evening near Monte Casino.

A memorial ceremony was held for two female JMPD officers, who tragically lost their lives when a drunk driver crashed into them on Witkoppen Road in Fourways.

The officers were conducting a roadside check on the evening of January 29 when the drunk driver drove into them, as well as a group of motorists that had been pulled over.

The ceremony consisted of Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba and Johannesburg Public Safety MMC Michael Sun, as well as fellow JMPD officers, family and friends laying wreaths and erecting steel crosses at the accident scene. Debris from the crash can still be seen strewn across the side of the road.
