According to initial statements, the vehicle was spotted in the vicinity of Siam Lee’s place of work at the time of her disappearance.

“A pistol was also recovered following the arrest. The suspect is being detained at our cells at the Durban North station. The vehicle was recovered in the upper Highway area near Hillcrest. Our detectives as well as several other roleplayers were involved in the operation. At this stage the gun and the vehicle is being processed by our forensics unit. We are still however waiting on postmortem results on the body found in New Hanover to confirm it is the body of Siam Lee,” he said.

The 20-year-old’s burnt body was allegedly discovered near a farm in New Hanover in the KZN Midlands more than a week ago. Lee had been missing since 4 January and was last seen leaving her workplace on Margaret Maytom.

On Friday, police took in the former Crawford College North Coast learner’s mom, Carmen Lee for questioning but later said she was not detained.

Earlier this week, media reports suggested Lee’s funeral had been delayed because DNA results had not been released.

Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, commended police on the arrest.

“We commend the SAPS for their dedication and hard work on this case and trust that truth and justice will prevail,” he said.
