To mark the end of 16 Days of Activism, DA councillor Sarah Wissler spearheaded the revamping of a house in Forest Hill, Johannesburg, which is intended to be a place of safety for abused women. She has named it Believe.
A local church donated this house, which she turned into a community project she is passionate about.

The safety of abused women is close to Clr Wissler’s heart as she too, was a victim of abuse. She is fervent about women empowerment, as well as ensuring that women’s protection is a priority.

Her desire to inspire other women led her to turn this house into a 24-hour safe haven for abused females.
“This safe house has already been registered as a non-profit organisation and is currently being registered as a shelter for abused women with the Gauteng Department of Social Development. This house of safety will only open officially in the New Year once all processes have been completed,” she said.
Clr Wissler, along with DA Councillors and other stakeholders, worked together to revamp and elevate the house to reflect the vision she has for a nonviolent home.
