Pit bulls attack cow on Richards Bay street
The cow sustained multiple wounds from the dog bites.

A roaming cow suffered multiple injuries after being attacked and bitten by two pit bulls in a Brackenham street in Richards Bay on Wednesday morning, Zululand Observer reports.
The incident again highlighted public concerns about cattle roaming unattended in the suburbs and the lack of law enforcement to remove the animals.
There is no pound in the area.

The cow was reportedly charged by the pit bulls, forcing it to flee into an open property to seek refuge.
According to Brackenham resident AG Khan, the animal stormed into his garden with the two dogs still gripped on its hind legs.
“I was loading stock into my car when the cow ran past and knocked off my rear-view mirror.
“It then ran through my house and found the cow in the backyard where it continued to wrestle with the dogs. They eventually let go.
“I made numerous calls to the municipality, fire department and the police, but each office told me to call another department or organisation. No one was able to assist me, but eventually the SPCA came to our rescue,” said Khan.
SPCA Inspector Wynand Strauss said there is currently no facility locally to accommodate stray cows and this incident left them in a predicament as they did not have the resources to transport it to an out of town pound.
“This animal was severely injured, and even though we do not have the funding or resources to handle these cases, we calmed the animal down, treated its wounds and arranged for it to be taken to the Empangeni SPCA.
“We did not want the animal to just walk out of the property as infection could set in or it could walk down the street and be attacked again.
“We want to thank Andre Geyser who loaned us his trailer and the Empangeni SPCA who used their transport to collect the animal and keep it at their facility.
“The cow will be taken to the Ulundi pound,” said Strauss.
