Fire rips through Northlands factory

Firefighters battled a blaze in Northlands Business Park last night.


A fire tore through the factory of The New Dimension Group in Northlands Business Park on the evening of 5 December, Randburg Sun reports.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started at about 10pm and Johannesburg Emergency Management Services responded to the call.

Firefighters fought the blaze for more than nine hours.

Procurement manager of the business park Vic de Beer said: “I was informed of the fire after it started at 10pm last night.

“I made sure that our staff were safe. I cannot estimate the cost of the damages at this point, but luckily we are insured.

“I have no idea what caused the blaze, but I am confident that the investigators will find its source.”

The roof of the factory warehouse completely collapsed under the heat of the fire. The fire also swept through the buildings’ administration block.

According to fire marshals on the scene, no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
