Entire family wiped out in N4 accident

Among the killed was a pregnant mother and her two kids.


All eight victims who were killed in two separate accidents on the N4 Sunday afternoon have been identified, Middelburg Observer reports.

A total of seven people were killed when a Mercedes Benz and Kia collided at about 3pm near Belfast in Mpumalanga.

The driver of the Mercedes allegedly lost control of his vehicle in the wet weather and went into the oncoming lane, spun and hit a Kia.

An entire family was killed in the Mercedes, including a 30-year-old pregnant mother and her two children, a boy and a girl.

The deceased have been identified as Busisiwe Alice Muedane, Dulcidio Feliciano Muedane, Ashley Nhelenti Muedane, Jayden Muedane and Musa Khumalo.

They are all Mozambican nationals residing in Carletonville.

Both occupants of the Kia died, and have been identified as Phadhadi Moses Mamphokhu and Maanda Given Netshilindi.

One person was killed at Blomplaas, near Belfast on the N4, when four cars and a taxi collided.

Second accident, moments later

In a separate accident just moments later, a taxi and four cars collided just a few kilometres away. This accident was also caused by the rain when a vehicle spun out of control on the highway and collided with other vehicles.

One person was killed and up to 10 people sustained injuries. The deceased person has been identified as Jafta Philemon Ntandane, 57, of Belfast.
