Birchgate Spar robbers shoot their way to ‘freedom

The robbers got away with two firearms and an undisclosed amount of money.

Armed robbers shot their way to their getaway cars after an armed robbery at Birchgate Spar on Monday morning, Kempton Express reports.

Luckily, no one was injured, but four cars parked in the parking area were damaged, said Captain Lesibana Molokomme, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS.

They got away with an undisclosed amount of money as well as two firearms. Molokomme said a G4S vehicle with three security officers arrived at the centre on the corner of Kwartel Street and the P91 at 8am to collect money.

“It is believed two security officers entered the shop and collected the money. On their way out but still inside the store, they were attacked by two armed suspects who robbed them of their firearms and the money.

“The suspects started shooting into the ground as they left the store, making their way to their getaway cars – a black BMW and silver Volvo,” Molokomme added.

“It is also believed more suspects, who took cover outside, joined their accomplices by shooting randomly and damaging four cars parked at the shopping centre. No one was injured during the shooting,” Molokomme said.

Norkem Park SAPS appeals to anyone with information about the suspects or the cars used, to contact the station on 011 391 1814/5 or 086 001 0111
