Young mother allegedly strangles newborn baby to death

The mother was taken to a local hospital shortly after the incident, as she needed medical attention.


Randfontein police on the West Rand are investigating a case of murder after a mother allegedly strangled her newborn baby to death, Randfontein Herald reports.

The incident happened on Sunday, 12 November, in the Bundu Inn informal settlement in Randfontein.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein police spokesperson, said: “It is alleged a 26-year-old woman gave birth to a baby boy at the informal settlement.”

The new mother then allegedly turned on the baby and strangled him. She was taken to a local hospital shortly after the incident, as she needed medical attention.

“The reasons for these sad turn of events are currently under investigation,” said Ernst.
