Newborn baby dumped in Shaka’s Head pit latrine

The body of a newborn baby was recovered from a pit latrine in Shaka’s Head, in KwaZulu-Natal, this morning.

“The baby, already deceased, was found in a plastic bag inside the toilet,” said IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst.

Umhlali SAPS spokesperson Vinny Pillay said the child’s mother, 20, was arrested at Ballito Clinic for concealment of birth, Northcoast Courier reported.

“The baby appears to be premature. A forensic report will reveal whether the child was stillborn or exactly what was the cause of death,” Pillay said.
