Police minister Bheki Cele announced on Wednesday the appointment of Lieutenant-General Elias Mawela as the new Gauteng provincial commissioner in Gauteng, reports Alex News.
The appointment of Mawela comes after the previous commissioner, General Deliwe Delange, went on pension last year. The minister expressed confidence in Mawela, and believed he would use his experience to fight crime.

At the swearing-in ceremony, Mawela provided his personal cellphone number to the public.
