Murder suspect leads cops to naked body buried on beach

A fight between two men near Hibberdene, in KwaZulu-Natal, led police to the beach, where a body was discovered buried in the sand, South Coast Herald reports.

An argument apparently broke out between two men (both aged 27) at Sihlonyaneni on Saturday at about 3am.

Tools used to exhume the body.

During the scuffle, one man struck the other on the head with a heavy object, and he died at the scene.

Hibberdene police were informed.

“Warrant Officer Xolani Masinga and Constable Siya Nyawuza went to the scene but found nobody,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

The suspect was pointed out by the community, and he was placed under arrest.

Detective Warrant Officer Herman Pienaar and Captain Jaques Buys from Ugu Cluster were called to Hibberdene when the suspect indicated he wanted to point out where he had buried the body.

The officers, accompanied by detectives from Hibberdene police and Port Shepstone LCRC as well as officers from Port Shepstone Search and Rescue, were shown to a place on the beach close to where the murder took place.

Search and Rescue officers soon found the body in the sand.

“The man had suffered a wound to his head. The body was taken to the state mortuary for a postmortem.

“A murder case has been opened at Hibberdene police, and the suspect will appear in court soon,” added Lieutenant-Colonel Wiid.
