Multiple fatalities reported in M1 South accident, motorists advised to avoid route
The cause of the accident has not yet been determined.

At least five people have reportedly been killed following an accident on the M1 South near Melrose Arch in Johannesburg.
According to reports, one of the vehicles involved in the accident was a South African Police Service (SAPS) vehicle transferring suspects from court.
Motorists are advised to avoid the M1 South as authorities attend to the scene. The M1 South is closed at Corlett Drive.
According to security the company, Vision Tactical, which is on the scene, “police confirmed that the suspects were all high-risk suspects that were detained recently for a case that was covered in the media.”
“Our team are currently on the scene, assisting the role players as they meticulously collect evidence and interview eyewitnesses. At this moment, the cause of the accident remains unknown. For the time being, the highway is closed from from Melrose Arch in both directions. We request you to opt for other roads for the time being,” it said.

On Monday, another incident claimed seven lives on R566 Rosslyn Road across Doornplaat in North West.
According to Arrive Alive in a statement, a BMW hit a truck, then the truck fell of the road into the fields.

“Debris pieces from both car and truck lay across the road as well as the bodies of the victims who died in the collision. Hartbeespoort Emergency Medical Services along with Station 21 were quickly on the scene to offer assistance to the victims. All thanks to the traffic officer who controlled the traffic/cars away from the scene,” said Arrive Alive.
“Motorists are being warned to please keep your eyes on the road and don’t take chances, Accident can happen in a blink of an eye. Deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.”
