Mother appeals for funds for baby’s heart condition surgery

The Hartbeespoort mother in North West is seeking for financial assistance towards her two-year-old baby’s medical bills after he was diagnosed with a rare heart condition.

Catarina Costopoulos’ son, Dante Piet Frank, was born on the 10th of December 2014 and diagnosed with a rare heart condition called Tetralogy of Fallot found in every five in 10 000 babies and he was also diagnosed with Down’s syndrome.

She said Dante’s heart condition needs open heart surgery to repair the four defects in his little heart.

“He is on heart medication every day and him being Down’s syndrome has [been] a challenge as well. He has a lack of oxygen and his muscle tone does not function like other babies do. He lays on his back and can’t sit or crawl. Only when he gets the surgery then he is free of getting Tet spells and can be a happier baby,” said Costopoulos.

“I am trying to raise funds amounting to R300 000 to travel to India for the surgery.”

Anyone who wishes to contribute towards Frank’s surgery bills can contact Costopoulos on: 0733 011 976 or email: cat.costopoulos@gmail.com.
