The police have arrested two more suspects in the last 12 hours, taking the total of arrests related to yesterday’s brash and violent cash-in-transit heist, which took place on Atlas Road in Boksburg, to seven, EWN has reported.
It is alleged that one of the suspects is a police officer, according to News24. This has yet to be confirmed by the the Independent Police Investigative Directorate.
The heist saw two cash-in-transit vehicles blown up and several gunshots fired. Eight people sustained moderate injuries, including two bystanders.
Yesterday, it was reported that some of the perpetrators had been caught at the George Goch Hostel after a chase on the M2, and that some of the money had been recovered.
“We also recovered firearms, that is two rifles and one pistol. We also recovered a car we suspect was used,” said the police spokesperson Mavela Masondo.
Now it seems that the police are closing in on the gang of armed robbers suspected to be responsible for the heist.
