Service delivery is expected to be the order of the day at the Thabazimbi local municipality in Limpopo following the long-awaited inauguration of a new mayor.
Sizzling with a passion to deliver efficient community services, new mayor ANC councillor Judith Mogapi was inaugurated at a glittering ceremony on Friday. Residents had been waiting for effective service delivery and, along with the ANC Women’s League in the Waterberg region, were ecstatic.
Mogapi is the third woman to be elected as mayor in the Waterberg region since 2021. Louisa Shongwe serves at the Lephalale local municipality and Gloria Seleka in Bela-Bela. At the ceremony, Mogapi said it was time for all political formations to put their differences aside and concentrate on delivering basic and concrete services to the communities of Thabazimbi.

She said the community had been yearning for change, peace, stability and tranquillity for a long time and her inauguration meant getting hands dirty. “We will fix roads, potholes, sewage spills and broken water pipes,” she said.
“We are going to improve our dilapidated infrastructure so that it can provide clean, drinkable water and reliable electricity to our people.” The 2021 local government elections produced two hung councils in Limpopo – the Modimolle-Mookgophong and Thabazimbi local municipalities.
Since then, the Thabazimbi council had been run by a coalition of six parties: the ANC with 11 seats, the Democratic Alliance (DA) with four, the Thabazimbi Residents Association with three, the Economic Freedom Fighters and Freedom Front Plus with two each and the Thabazimbi Forum for Service Delivery with one seat.
Mogapi was elected mayor last October after the ANC successfully won a motion of no-confidence against DA mayor Tokkie Swanepoel, who they accused of being inefficient and ineffective. – news@citizen.co.za
