Mixed martial artists take to the stage

While proceedings at this afternoon’s weigh-in were relatively straight-forward and drama-free there’s an underlying ton of expectation as Henry Fadipe looks to take the welterweight crown.

The champion, who fights out of Ireland but was born in Nigeria, got on the scale at 76.5kg at the casino complex while challenger Adam Speechly came in at 76.4kg, as he looks to reclaim the belt he once held.

Boyd Allen and Barend Nienaber, the two fighters set to slug it out for the organisation’s featherweight title, were both within the required limit at 65.6kg and 65.9kg respectively and both were confident of their chances.

“I want to put on a show. I feel that this is a fight I can finish,” Allen said.

“I’m going to come like a truck and Boyd is not going to be able to stop me,” Nienaber said of the showdown.

The remainder of the main card sees Liam Cleland take on JP Kruger while heavyweights Elvis Moyo and Tiny Strauss clash.

Shaun de Lange and Gordon Roodman, who came in slightly overweight and will have two hours to cut to the welterweight limit, will meet in the opening bout of the main card.
