Missing policewoman found dead in Mpumalanga

The body of a 37-year-old policewoman has been found after she was reported missing at the Kanyamazane Police Station in Mpumalanga over the weekend.

The victim, Sergeant Sthembile Mdluli, was attached to the White River Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit. She was reported missing by her family since Saturday, the Mpumalanga News reports.

The probe by police led them to the victim’s male friend who, after intense questioning, confessed and led the police to the scene near Sabie where the body had been deserted.

It also appeared that police in Sabie discovered the body of an unknown woman this morning through the assistance of plantation workers.

Further investigation led to the discovery of the victim’s vehicle within the vicinity of Kabokweni on Wednesday.

The male friend was arrested and charged with murder and will appear at the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court soon.

The provincial commissioner of the SA Police Service (SAPS) in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma, sent his heartfelt condoloences to the family and colleagues and a stern warning to offenders who kill police officers.

“One of the SAPS’s priorities is to put an end to police killings and, to do that, we have committed ourselves. We will ensure that anyone who kills a police officer faces the full might of the law,” said Zuma.
