‘Mentally ill’ man killed during R59 unrest

It is alleged the Red Ants were deployed to the scene, and have since been fighting with protesters when the man was killed.


A man between the ages of 30-35, who is said to be mentally ill, has allegedly died in Meyerton, Sedibeng, during the R59 unrest.

This is after protesters dug a trench in the road on Wednesday. It has been alleged the Red Ants were deployed to the scene, and have since been fighting with protesters, Sedibeng Ster reported.

According to the community members, people who were going to work in the morning were stopped and searched by the Red Ants. Police and emergency personnel responded to the scene.
