WATCH: Meghan Markle gets ‘catty’ in Ellen DeGeneres prank

Meghan Markle sat down with Ellen DeGeneres and shared that Archie 'loves being a big brother'.

Meghan Markle’s time in the American press has been much easier for the former royal than her experiences with the British media.

Markle appeared on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show on Thursday and people got to see the funny and relaxed side of a public figure that has divided opinion since she married Prince Harry.

Meghan spoke about their new life in the United States and shared new pictures of their first child, Archie.

Archie, 2, is seen feeding their chickens in their backyard. The couple welcomed their second child, a daughter named Lillbet, five months ago.

During the interview, Meghan said that Archie “loves being a big brother”.

She said: “Everybody tells you — somebody told H and I — when you have one kid it’s a hobby and two’s parenting.

“We realise what it is like for the second child, but no one talks about the adjustment for the first child when the second one comes along. So they had that moment of, ‘This is fun. Oh, this is how it is now.’”

Meghan said they are a pet-loving family and their dogs – Pula and Guy – are referenced in her children’s book The Bench. She also praised Harry for being an amazing father.

For royal watchers it was interesting that Ellen referred to Meghan in the entire interview as the Duchess of Sussex.

Queen Elizabeth removed their royal titles after they left the British monarchy.

The former actress talked about their charity work and efforts to get Americans to have paid family leave.

“People truly forget that or don’t even know that in this country, which is one of only six wealthy countries in the entire world, that doesn’t mandate a federal paid leave programme.”

She says people with families know how critical it is in the first weeks of a child’s life to be together as a family. She added that knowing that as a mother, she will do “everything she can” to make this a reality for other families.

Meghan’s love for cooking was also brought up and the family will be celebrating their second Thanksgiving in California.

In classic Ellen fashion, Meghan was tasked with pranking ordinary civilians in Los Angeles.
