Man sustains serious head injuries after falling from train

The man was found lying near the tracks with severe head injuries.

A man believed to be in his 20s sustained serious head injuries when he apparently fell from a train near Birchleigh Station, on the East Rand.

Werner Vermaak, spokesperson for ER24, said they arrived at the scene shortly before 5pm on Tuesday. Paramedics from ER24 were escorted by another medical service to the train tracks, Kempton Express reported.

“The man was found lying near the tracks with severe head injuries. Paramedics stabilised him on the scene and later carried him back to an access point, where he was loaded into an ER24 ambulance and transported to a nearby hospital.”

“The exact circumstances surrounding the incident is not yet known. Bystanders could not confirm if the man was pushed from the train or if he was ‘surfing’ when the incident happened,” Vermaak said.
