A Craighall Park resident in Johannesburg is in a critical condition after he was robbed, assaulted and shot in his home by a man he met on social media.
According to Captain Tintswalo Sibeko from the Parkview Police Station, the victim met a man on social media three weeks ago and invited him to his house for drinks in the evening, Rosebank Killarney Gazette reported.
“The victim and the suspect had some drinks together, and after some time, the complainant asked the suspect to leave, and the suspect refused to leave the house. An argument ensued, and the suspect took out a black revolver and threatened the victim,” said Sibeko.
According to Sibeko, the men began pushing each other down the stairs, and the victim was shot twice in his stomach.
The victim was then threatened at gunpoint and told to go to his garage, where he was instructed to climb into the boot of his car.
“The victim was locked inside the boot until 2am on 27 August when he managed to free himself, and he went to a neighbour’s house for help, and he was taken to a hospital,” said Sibeko.
According to Nick Dollman, the media liaison for Netcare, the 47-year-old man was attended to by an advanced life support paramedic.
“He was in a very serious condition after being assaulted and shot more than once. The man was stabilised at the scene and analgesic medication was administered to control his pain. He was then transported by a Netcare 911 ambulance to an awaiting trauma centre for the urgent medical intervention that he required,” said Dollman.
According to Sibeko, the suspect took a cell phone and a plasma television valued at R25 000.
