A man was seriously injured in a gas explosion on Glide Road, Farningham Ridge, in Pinetown, at about 9.48am today, Highway Mail reports.
Chris Botha, Netcare 911 spokesperson, said the paramedics responded to the scene after receiving a call from SA CAN.
It is believed the 39-year-old man was working in his garage at home when an acetylene cylinder in the far corner of the garage exploded.

“Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the man lying next to a swimming pool. He allegedly ran and jumped into the pool after the explosion to cool down. Paramedics worked fervently to stabilise the critically injured man before they transported him to a specialised hospital in Durban,” said Botha.
Police are investigating the explosion.
