Man seriously injured in crash

A man was seriously injured when a police vehicle he was travelling in hit a tree in Silverton, Pretoria on Friday morning, Pretoria East Rekord reports.
Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson Johan Pieterse said the accident occurred in Pretoria Street opposite the Christian Brothers’ College.
He said the motorist was stabilised then transported to hospital.
“The cause of the crash was unknown,” he said.

According to an eyewitness, the vehicle caught alight after the crash.
“The vehicle was up in flames after impact luckily, another motorist who had an extinguisher put out the flames. The jaws of life had to be used to cut the man out of the vehicle.”
