A 29-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment for raping an 11-year-old girl in KwaZulu-Natal.
Phumlani Bhekisisa Cele felt the full wrath of the law for the heinous crime that he committed on July 22, 2016, Rising Sun Chatsworth reported.
It is believed the victim was at home when she was grabbed by the accused and pushed into his room, where he raped her. The child was taken to the local doctor for medical examination and it was confirmed that she was raped.
A case of rape was subsequently opened at the docket was transferred to the local FCS unit for further investigation.
Cele appeared in court several times before he could be sentenced recently.
KZN’s acting provincial commissioner Major-General Bheki Langa welcomed the sentence handed down to the accused and praised the investigating officers for their hard work that led to the arrest and conviction.
“This sentence will serve as a lesson to other criminals,” he added.
