Man sentenced to four life terms for rape of woman, 92

The victim had offered the accused food and that was when he noticed that she lived alone.

A 36-year-old man has been sentenced to four life terms by the Pretoria Regional Court for burglary and rape of a 92-year-old woman in Groenkloof, east of Pretoria.

Sunnyside police spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela said on the afternoon of October 13, 2013, the victimhad offered food to a passerby, William Molaudzi.

“He noticed at that moment that the Good Samaritan lived alone. Once his stomach was full, the accused thought of recruiting someone who could help him to break into the woman’s house,” Mavimbela said.

He said Molaudzi then approached Xolani Ngudle, 37, to assist him with the crime.

“Having broken into the victim’s house, Molaudzi climbed through a trap door and subsequently dropped onto the victim’s bed after breaking through her bedroom’s ceiling. While Ngudle ransacked the house, Molaudzi forced himself unto the victim and had unlawful sexual intercourse that lasted until the early hours of the following morning,” Mavimbela said.

He said the duo also left the house with the victim’s cash and other properties.

“The accused were arrested on October 22, 2013. He has been sentenced to four life terms plus an additional twelve years. His co-accused,  Xolani Ngudle (37), will spend next twelve years in prison,” Mavimbela said.

He said the case also highlighted the effectiveness of the forensic experts within the cluster as they played a key role in finding evidence that linked the two to the crime.
