An elderly man has died after a drowning incident on eMdloti Beach in Durban on Tuesday.

According to Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha, the holidaymaker was about 70, Northglen News reported.

The incident occurred at about 11am.

“The man was from Johannesburg and was on holiday in eMdloti.

“He went swimming this morning, and residents reportedly saw him in visible distress. He was pulled out by lifeguards, who began CPR on him. Paramedics also worked tirelessly on the man trying to resuscitate him with CPR. Sadly, there was no response,” he said.

The cause of the drowning is unknown.

The incident follows a near-drowning on Saturday at an uMhlanga resort involving a seven-year-old girl.
