Man dies after necklacing in Bloemfontein mob justice attack

Reports circulating on social media allege the man is a member of a gang and had robbed someone earlier that day.


A man believed to be in his 20s was set alight and killed by an angry mob on Monday in Rocklands, Bloemfontein.

Police spokesperson Ikobeng Hlubi has confirmed the incident, saying the police will release a statement later today, Bloemfontein Courant reported.

Circulating reports on social media allege the man is a member of the well-known Maroma gang and that he had robbed someone on the day of the attack.

The community went after him, putting a tyre around him and setting it alight.

He was killed at an open field not too far from popular hangout spot Molly’s Tavern.
