Man allegedly kills mother over witchcraft

The man accused his mother of witchcraft, then took a pair of scissors and stabbed her.

A 26-year-old man is expected to appear in the Tonga Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga for allegedly killing his mother over the Easter weekend.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said the suspect is alleged to have accused his mother of witchcraft at Mdladla Trust near Malalane on Sunday, the Lowvelder reports.

“He then took a pair of scissors and stabbed her. Police and paramedics were called to the scene and, upon arrival, the victim was certified dead. Police opened a murder charge against the suspect,” Hlathi said.

The suspect will appear in court tomorrow (Thursday).

Meanwhile, in another incident on the same day, a 26-year-old man was assaulted to death by three men at Naas, also near Malalane.

“It is reported that the three men, aged between 21 and 23, intercepted the victim when he was coming from a tavern in the wee hours and accused him of having robbed them. They then started assaulting him until he died,” Hlathi added.

A case of murder was opened for investigation. All three suspects were arrested and will appear in the same court on the same day.
