The two nations meet in Russia 12 months ago in the Confederations Cup and on that occasion it was a second-string Die Mannschaft who ran out comfortable 4-1 winners.
The reigning world champions have lost only once in 11 meetings against the Mexicans, and this will be the fourth time the two nations have gone head-to-head at a World Cup, with the Germans most recently coming out on top 2-1 at France 98.
Having cruised through qualifying, with a perfect record of 10 wins from 10 matches, Joachim Low’s men have gone off the boil of late, winning just one of their last six friendlies in the build-up.
However, this is a nation who always performs when the World Cup comes around, reaching at least the semi-finals in the last four editions.
