The five-time champions appear to have put behind them the 7-1 defeat to Germany in the semi-finals four years ago, impressing as they eased through qualifying for Russia, finishing top of the South American standings, with the most goals scored and fewest conceded.

The aim now is to become only the second South American nation to win the World Cup on European soil, after a Pele-inspired Selecao triumphed in Sweden in 1958.

Tite’s men have been boosted by the return to fitness of Neymar after he missed the majority of the second half of Paris Saint-Germain’s season due to a foot injury.

The world’s most expensive player has looked sharp since making his return, scoring in Brazil’s last two matches, and he is expected to start up front alongside Gabriel Jesus and Willian.

Brazil haven’t lost to a European team since their hammering by Germany at the 2014 World Cup, but they were beaten when they last came up against Switzerland in 2013.

The Swiss, currently ranked sixth in the world, head to Russia in good form, having lost just one of their last 17 matches, holding Spain to a draw and beating Japan in their warm-up matches.
