A Vryheid man in KwaZulu-Natal has recently been convicted and sentenced by the Vryheid Regional Court to 10 years for raping his 22-year-old sister after he pleaded guilty in court.
The court heard how at about 11pm on New Year’s Day, the victim asked her brother, 27, to accompany her to a nearby tavern at Bhekuzulu location.
She asked him because she trusted him and believed that he would protect her from a possible attack by criminals, not knowing that he would turn against her, the Northern Natal Courier reports
While walking with him, the accused threatened her with a knife and forced her to nearby bushes, where he raped her.
A case of rape was opened at Vryheid Police Station for further investigation.
The Vryheid Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit took over the investigation that led to the arrest of the accused.
