Thousands of residents are set to end the week in the dark due to a planned outage affecting several parts of Johannesburg.
Utility City Power reminded residents that maintenance work will be done at the Orlando Switching Station in Soweto.
The station was damaged by a fire last year that was believed to be linked to vandalism and theft.
Lights are scheduled to be off from 8am to 4pm.
“The interruption is necessary to do essential maintenance work on our network, which is part of our program of constantly striving to provide a better service,” the utility said.

Areas on the outskirts, west, and south of Johannesburg CBD are affected.

A few hours later, power will be cut to residents in Diepkloof, Soweto.
Eskom confirmed the outage will run from 9am to 6pm and affect residents in Diepkloof Phase 1, 2, and 3.
This is to allow for vital maintenance of the distribution network in the area.
City Power Revenue Protection team disconnected two property development estates in Kibler Park on Friday after they were found to have been connected to the electricity network illegally.

The properties had been cut off during a previous operation last week following an anonymous tip-off. The developer of the estates had illegally connected the properties directly to City Power’s infrastructure.
“The land, once a farm, was allegedly taken over by the developer without applying for a meter or establishing an active account with the City of Johannesburg for any municipal services.
“During the sting operation, the team confiscated a non-vending meter and removed 1,000 kg of stolen cables, valued at approximately R250,000.
The development, which has been operational since around 2021, is estimated to have caused up to R1 million in revenue losses.
A case of tampering with essential infrastructure and illegal connections was opened at the Mondeor Police Station and a warrant of arrest was issued for the property owner, a male in his 50s.
