Three suspects shot dead in gun battle with KZN police
Picture: Twitter
Mayor of Johannesburg Herman Mashaba tweeted a picture congratulating two Johannesburg Metro Police Department Officers for turning down a R10 000 bribe.
Mashaba is currently running the City of Joburg’s Service with Pride campaign, and used this example of crime fighting to say: “Our Service with Pride campaign is beginning to take shape.”
While this act is something to be proud of, the picture divided Twitter users as to what they would’ve done with the money.

Some Twitter users praised the officers, asking for them to receive raises.
Our country can't be run by thugs or intimidation…These our heroes and their lives can't be at risk for merely doing their jobs..

Others felt that the officers should have maybe hung on to the money.

The bribe was suggested by scrap dealers who allegedly stole copper cables, as seen in the tweet below. The City of Joburg is set to oppose bail.
