Jayde Kruger wins British Formula Ford Championship

South African Jayde Kruger won the Dunlop MSA British Formula Ford Championship at Brands Hatch in England on Sunday.

The 26 year-old Kruger from Edenvale, provisionally clinched the title after an eighth place finish in the final race of the championship.

Kruger won on points despite the final race being won by Briton Harrison Scott.

The championship consisted of 10 rounds of three races each – the first of which was back in March. Kruger finished fourth in 28th round on Saturday, which was also won by Scott.

He came back to win round 29 on Sunday morning, after Scott retired when the pair had tangled during the race. Scott protested Kruger’s win to the stewards, who ruled in favour of the South African.

However, Scott has appealed the decision, hence the provisional status of the championship victory.

Kruger, who had a 22 point advantage at the start, could afford to finish no lower than 11th to be crowned winner.

Kruger, who was the first South African to clinch the title since Trevor van Rooyen in 1977, had a tally of 13 wins in 30.

Kruger joins Jordan Pepper and Kelvin van der Linde in bringing home silverware from the international motorsport stage in 2014.
