A sangoma who was arrested at a roadblock for allegedly driving under the influence in uMhlanga on the M41 in KwaZulu-Natal asked for a sacrifice before being jailed, Northglen News reports.
Captain Raymond Deokaran, spokesperson for the Durban North police, said: “The intoxicated traditional healer was one of 16 people arrested on the night.”
Deokaran said the scene played out as officers were about to place the sangoma in the jail cells at the station.
“The sangoma demanded a cow sacrifice before being placed in the jail cells. We declined and placed him in the cell. We would like to reiterate our stance on drunk driving, there will be no excuses.

“On the same night, we also had a man claim he was a soldier and was being deployed to the Democratic Republic of Congo on a combat mission. We will continue to host roadblocks to try to ensure safety on our roads,” Deokaran said.
More than 100 drivers have been arrested for drunk driving in roadblocks on the M4 and the M41 since the beginning of the year.
