Horror ordeal for 56-year-old woman bound, gagged during robbery

Facing four men, two of whom were armed with a gun and knife, the 56-year-old woman was trussed up, gagged and her eyes covered.

In what can only be described as the worst moment in a Scottburgh woman’s life, four armed men broke into her home, tied her up, gagged her and covered her face while they proceeded to ransack her house in KwaZulu-Natal.

The woman’s peaceful slumber came to an abrupt end when she was awoken by a noise at about 3am last Friday, South Coast Herald reported.

Not thinking anything of it, she rose and went to watch television.

This was when she was confronted by the intruders.

The four men, two of whom were armed – one with a gun and one with a knife –  trussed up and gagged the 56-year-old woman. They also covered her eyes.

The robbers’ faces were partially covered in an attempt to conceal their identities.

“Entry into the house had been gained through an open window after the intruders removed the burglar guards,” said Scottburgh police spokesperson Captain Vincent Pandarum.

“Despite being tied up, the woman managed to press a panic button in the room.

“This caused the robbers to flee, taking with them jewellery, cellphones, television sets, bank cards and an iPad,” added Pandarum.

“The highly traumatised woman managed to alert her tenants who untied her and contacted the Scottburgh SAPS,” added Pandarum.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 039 9781900.

No arrests have yet been made.
