Holomisa thanks Ramaphosa for showing ‘leadership’ for Port St Johns

In a tweet on Tuesday night, United Democratic Movement (UDM) leader Bantu Holomisa gave credit to President Cyril Ramaphosa for showing leadership amid the weather crisis in the Eastern Cape.

He said he had alerted Ramaphosa on Monday evening to the Port St Johns floods, and the president, who was on his way to Egypt, responded that he would send in the defence force.

Holomisa described this as “Leadership!”

According to people in the area, the SA National Defence Force (SANDF) did indeed show a presence by yesterday morning.

The SANDF confirmed in a statement that they had been deployed to the Eastern Cape to help with rescue and evacuation in Port St Johns. Hundreds of residents were displaced in the Eastern Cape, which is Holomisa’s political stronghold.
