A man hired to transport a three-year-old girl to her créche in Kempton Park West has been arrested for allegedly raping the little girl.
The 34-year-old Zimbabwean briefly appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Thursday last week, Kempton Express reported.
Sebenza police spokesperson Sergeant Sharon Tsotsotso said on February 13 the child’s grandmother became concerned about her granddaughter’s wellbeing when the man hired to transport her had not arrived at the normal drop-off time of 4.30pm at Thornhill Estate.
Tsotsotso said when the man and child arrived at 7.40pm, the grandmother asked the driver why he was late.
“The driver became overly aggressive towards the grandmother and blamed the traffic for being late. Once the child was at home the grandmother asked her what had happened,” said Tsotsotso.
“The girl told her that she had been instructed by the driver to not tell her grandmother what had happened.
“The concerned grandmother began undressing the child and pretended to get a bath ready for the young girl in order to determine what had happened.”
The grandmother noticed a discharge in the child’s underwear. The girl was taken to Sunninghill Hospital where it was determined she had been sexually assaulted.
“It was found the discharge in the child’s underwear was semen,” Tsotsotso added.
Tsotsotso said a case of rape was opened at Sandton SAPS and the case had since been transferred to Sebenza police station.
“The child could not tell the police or her grandmother where the rape had occurred,” said Tsotsotso.
She said with the assistance of the grandmother, the police arrested the suspect in Thornhill Estate.
