Greeff has a strong hand at Fairview

Champion trainer Alan Greeff looks set for a good day today on the Fairview Polytrack where he sends out quite a few good prospects, one of them being four-year-old Fire In The Belly (Aldo Domeyer) who steps out in Race 4, a MR 76 Handicap over 1600m.

This former Western Cape gelding made a promising debut for Greeff on the Polytrack in his penultimate outing when ridden by Greg Cheyne and coming from last after a slow start to finish a 1.30-length third over 1000m, a distance short of his best.

Sent off favourite next time when teamed up with Domeyer at the same venue, the gelding showed strong pace throughout and posted a clear-cut second career win over 1600m in a MR 75 Handicap. With the experience gained from that run the combination should complete the course and distance double.

Greeff’s charge will have to be on guard against the likes of Trees Of Green, Bonne Vie and Cat In Command.

The Greeff-Domeyer combination could also come to light in Race 3 with Mamba Mania who contests a 1900m Maiden Plate for fillies and mares.

The filly deserves a change of luck after being placed nine times in her 12 starts. The last time Domeyer partnered her was three runs back when a runner-up over the course and distance.

The four-year-old held form in her two subsequent outings when finishing fourth – and with Domeyer recalled the filly could crack her maiden win.

Best of the rest are Mischievious, Ginger Rose and Return To Sender.

Greeff has a strong hand in Race 6 with Boxley (Charles Ndlovu) and Stopthinkingofme (Domeyer) in a MR 70 Handicap (F&M) over 1000m.

Both are last time out winners at the Polytrack, but Boxley could have the edge after a gutsy debut when losing two lengths at the start and winning by 1.75 lengths.

Greeff and Domeyer have a bright chance of success in Race 7 with three-year-old Fritz Nobis who steps out in a 1200m MR 65 Handicap.

The colt showed smart form in his last three starts at the Polytrack where he was a runner-up over 1000m, then a resounding maiden winner over 1200m which he followed up with a creditable fast-finishing fourth over 1400m. Domeyer will be aboard for the first time and it could be a winning association.
