Girl, 14 months, drowns in residential swimming pool

It is alleged the baby girl had fallen into the swimming pool and was found in a pool by a family member.


A 14-month-old girl drowned in a residential swimming pool in Gillitts, KwaZulu-Natal.

Netcare911 spokesperson Chris Botha said paramedics received a call from SA Can for a drowning incident on Russell Ridge Road in Gillitts at about 5.35pm on Wednesday, Highway Mail reported.

The report from the scene said the baby girl had fallen into the swimming pool, but she was found by a family member, who immediately started CPR.

“Paramedics arrived at the home and took over with advanced life support resuscitation.

“A local trauma doctor also assisted with the resuscitation however despite all efforts from the medical services who worked hand in hand to save the child, she was declared dead just before 7pm,” said Botha.
