The Gautrain service between Pretoria and Hatfield came to a halt on Thursday morning over what the company is calling a ‘train failure’.
According to a statement released on their Facebook page, the incident happened at 8.30am on Thursday morning and technicians were working on resolving the issue, Rekord East reported.
According to Gautrain spokesperson, Kesagee Nayager, as the train approached Hatfield station at low speed, a minor derailment occurred. All passengers on board the train were safely evacuated without any injury. A full investigation is under way to determine the cause of the incident.
Alternative measures have been put in place and buses are transporting passengers between the two stations. Services at other Gautrain stations remain unaffected and are operating normally.
Some passengers of the Gautrain are, however, still worried about what this means for their commute.
