The Gauteng Department of Health has warned the public of fake jobs, internship and bursary adverts targeted at desperate job seekers.
According to a statement issued by the department, the latest scam that came to its attention was a suspicious text message inviting victims to an interview at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria.
The department has highlighted that this is not the correct procedure; shortlisted candidates are given a formal invitation in the form of a letter and not through a text message.
“In another fictitious advert which has been circulating nationally on social media platforms unsuspecting people are invited to apply for SA Nurse internships and job opportunity by submitting their details to a bogus online portal,” said the department.

Vacancies and bursaries are advertised through official platforms which include the Gauteng online portal, Department of Public Service and Administration circular which is published on DPSA website, official departmental social media platforms and mainstream newspapers.
Additionally, applications are not faxed but are either sent via post, emailed, or dropped-off physically at a designated hospital, clinic or any of our facilities in their original form for verification.
“The department also wishes to warn the public that some of these fake job and bursary advertisements, ask applicants to pay an amount of money in exchange for employment.”
“If you are requested money in exchange for employment, please report the matter to the police. No money is required to apply for jobs and bursaries in the public service.”
The health department has urged citizens to be cautious and compare job and bursary advertisements that are circulated on social media platforms against those posted on the above-mentioned official sites.
